Sec. Dizon Says Mayor Magalong’s Resignation as ICI Adviser Is a Major Loss

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon said he personally spoke with Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong regarding his resignation from the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI).

In an interview, Dizon shared that he even tried to convince Magalong to reconsider his decision, but it seemed the mayor was already firm about stepping down.

According to the secretary, Magalong’s departure is a significant loss to the investigation aimed at holding accountable those involved in corruption within flood control projects.

It can be recalled that Magalong’s resignation as an ICI adviser was announced last week due to concerns over a potential conflict of interest.

Despite this, Magalong said in his statement that there was no conflict of interest in his role as special adviser and investigator for the ICI.

Nevertheless, he stepped down to protect the integrity of the independent commission in its fight against corruption.
