A 62-year-old retired seaman captain was found lifeless inside his home on Apollo St., Buhangin, Davao City on March 15, 2025, with a knife lodged in his neck.
Central 911 alerted authorities at 2:15 PM. Buhangin Station Commander PMAJ Dante Baguio Jr. dispatched officers, who arrived to find the victim lying in his living room, covered in blood, with a severe neck wound and a stab wound to his head.
Two employees from the victim’s medical laboratory, a 55-year-old female staff member and a 29-year-old male driver, discovered the crime scene. The victim’s wife, who was in Manila with their children, had asked them to check on him. After receiving no response at the gate, the driver climbed over, opened the door, and found the victim unresponsive.
A Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) team arrived at 3:10 PM, recovering a knife, a lighter, and the victim’s wristwatch. Investigators identified the stay-in house helper as a person of interest after he was found missing.
On March 17, police conducted a hot pursuit operation in Panabo City but failed to locate the suspect. His father revealed that the suspect had not returned home in two weeks. Investigators recovered a bloodstained steel bar, believed to be another weapon, and a notebook allegedly detailing a crime plan.
Authorities are preparing charges as the investigation continues.
