Rep. Pulong Duterte has called for a fair and professional impeachment trial for his sister, Vice President Sara Duterte.
In a social media post, the lawmaker said he hopes the proceedings will allow the truth to emerge beyond the accusations, speculation, and political narratives surrounding the case.
“Like many Filipinos, I hope the proceedings will be conducted fairly, professionally, and without unnecessary distractions. More importantly, I hope this process finally allows the truth to emerge from the mountain of accusations, speculation, political narratives, and noise that have surrounded this issue for months,” he said.
According to Duterte, the Filipino people deserve the truth—not rumors or hearsay, and not propaganda.
He also expressed confidence that Vice President Duterte will be given the opportunity to answer every allegation in the proper forum and through due process.
With the impeachment trial now underway, Duterte urged the public to allow the Senate impeachment court to carry out its constitutional duty and to approach the proceedings with an open mind.
“As the proceedings begin, I ask everyone to allow the Senate impeachment court to do its work and to approach this historic process with an open mind. At the end of the day, political attacks may generate headlines, but only the truth can stand the test of scrutiny,” he added.
He added that he hopes the trial will not only resolve the issue but also reveal the truth behind the impeachment case.
