House Committee on Ethics and Privileges member Rep. JC Abalos assured that once a complaint is filed against any lawmaker with evidence linking them to anomalous flood control projects, the committee is ready to conduct hearings.
This comes after some questioned the House’s suspension of Cavite 4th District Rep. Kiko Barzaga over “disorderly behavior.”
Critics argued that Barzaga’s issue was prioritized even though many lawmakers allegedly involved in corruption have not been suspended.
In an interview, Abalos said they are prepared to hold hearings on corruption allegations and are equally ready to make a decision on such cases.
However, he stressed that ethical complaints involving violations by lawmakers should not be disregarded.
In the end, Abalos emphasized that as public officials, lawmakers must act responsibly, noting that every statement they make carries political and legal consequences.
