Pregnant woman and unborn child die after being turned away from multiple hospitals

A pregnant woman and her unborn child died after experiencing complications during labor around eleven o’clock Monday morning March 30.

Barangay Marilog Proper Captain Jenet Suam confirmed the victim endured a three hour transport seeking medical assistance from nearby facilities.

Responders transported the patient from Barangay Salumay toward City of Patag using a patient transport vehicle before attempting admission at Kibala Hospital.

Hospital staff reportedly refused to admit the patient prompting responders to request assistance from emergency services due to limited funds.

The barangay facilitated transfer through 911 services after the family could only provide five hundred pesos for transport expenses.

Captain Suam stated the patient already showed signs of extreme weakness while a midwife reported complications involving abnormal fetal positioning during labor.

Responders brought the patient to another hospital in Calinan but staff required a thirty five thousand peso downpayment before treatment.

The family failed to provide the required amount resulting in another transfer to Southern Philippines Medical Center for emergency care.

Doctors at the receiving hospital declared both the mother and her unborn child dead on arrival after assessment.

Barangay officials urged pregnant women to undergo regular prenatal checkups to prevent complications and reduce risks during childbirth in communities.
