₱876,800 smuggled cigarettes seized; 3 arrested in Lanao del Norte

A total of ₱876,800 worth of smuggled cigarettes was seized by authorities during a checkpoint operation in Pantar, Lanao del Norte, on May 4, 2026, leading to the arrest of three individuals.

The operation was conducted by the 105th Maneuver Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 10. Police Lt. Col. Bernard E. Pagaduan, acting force commander of RMFB 10, said authorities intercepted 1,096 reams of cigarettes during the inspection.

The cigarettes reportedly lacked government health warning labels, a requirement under Philippine law, and were considered smuggled goods. When the driver and his two companions were asked to present documents for the shipment, they failed to provide any.

As a result, the three individuals were immediately arrested. They are now facing charges for alleged violations of Republic Act No. 10643, Republic Act No. 6424, and Republic Act No. 12022.

Authorities did not disclose further details about the suspects or their origin.

RMFB 10 said it continues to coordinate with other government agencies to address smuggling activities in the province. The unit emphasized its ongoing efforts to strengthen enforcement and protect local communities from illegal trade.

The operation forms part of broader law enforcement efforts aligned with the Philippine National Police’s campaign to deliver faster, more reliable, and visible public service.
