Palace vows to follow Supreme Court ruling on PhilHealth’s ₱60-B excess fund

Malacañang assured compliance with any Supreme Court order regarding the ₱60 billion excess fund of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), currently held in the National Treasury.

During a press briefing, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro stated that the administration will respect and abide by the Supreme Court’s decision should it order the return of the funds to PhilHealth.

This statement follows remarks from Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonio Kho, who emphasized that the money should be returned to PhilHealth to strengthen its members’ benefits rather than remain in the National Treasury.

During the third round of oral arguments, Kho noted that PhilHealth has the option to formally request President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to return the ₱60 billion, which had been transferred to the government’s unprogrammed funds.

He stressed that these funds could be used to expand healthcare benefits, hire additional personnel, and address the urgent medical needs of Filipinos.
