Ormoc City cemented its status as Eastern Visayas’ undisputed sports powerhouse after securing its fifth consecutive Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association (EVRAA) championship. The city’s delegation, the Siglaro Elites, dominated the competition with 219 gold medals, 134 silvers, and 68 bronzes, setting a new record in the regional meet’s history.
With victories in 2018, 2019, 2023, 2024, and 2025, Ormoc became the first city to achieve a quintuple championship in EVRAA. The latest feat solidifies its reputation as the most formidable delegation in the region’s premier sporting event.
The city’s unprecedented success can be attributed to the unwavering support of Ormoc City Mayor Lucy Torres-Gomez and 4th District of Leyte Representative Richard Gomez. Their initiatives in enhancing sports programs, upgrading training facilities, and providing financial aid to athletes played a crucial role in the outstanding performance of Ormocanon athletes.
Investments in modern sports infrastructure and grassroots development programs ensured that Ormoc’s delegation remained at the top of its game.
A commanding lead in the medal tally
Ormoc’s athletes showcased unparalleled skill and determination across all three EVRAA 2025 clusters: Dolores, Eastern Samar; Maasin City; and Tacloban City. Their gold medal count put them far ahead of their closest competitors, reinforcing the city’s dominance in various sports disciplines.
City officials praised the team for their relentless pursuit of excellence. The local government, which has invested heavily in grassroots sports programs, attributed the continued success to rigorous training, strong coaching support, and unwavering community backing.
The path to victory and future goals
Ormoc’s triumph was fueled by standout performances, where the Siglaro Elites consistently outshone competitors. Coaches emphasized that the city’s sports program aims not only to dominate regional meets but also to prepare young athletes for national and international competitions.
As the celebrations continue, sports officials are already looking ahead. Plans are underway to strengthen training facilities and expand support for emerging talents. With back-to-back wins, Ormoc is setting its sights on sustaining its dominance in future EVRAA meets and beyond.
With the historic five-peat victory, Ormoc has not only secured its place in EVRAA history but also inspired the next generation of athletes to reach greater heights.
