A tragic road crash claimed the life of a motorcyclist after he was struck by a dump truck on March 28, 2025, at TEFASCO Wharf, Barangay Ilang, Davao City.
The victim, identified as Joseph Pagtanan, 38, of Kapalong, Davao del Norte, was driving a motorcycle when the accident occurred. The other vehicle involved was a dump truck, driven by Januaine Dela Gente, 31, from Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte.
According to the initial investigation, both vehicles were traveling north along Daang Maharlika Highway, occupying the second lane. The dump truck reportedly rear-ended the motorcycle, causing Pagtanan to lose control and crash onto the cemented road. He was pronounced dead at 2:07 PM by a medical professional via phone consultation.
Authorities transported both vehicles to the police station for proper case disposition, while Pagtanan’s remains were brought to a funeral home in Davao City. A witness, Richard Noyad, 49, stated that he saw the dump truck collide with the motorcycle.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the crash.
