Mother shot dead, husband and son wounded in Bukidnon attack

A woman was killed while her husband and son were injured after a shooting inside their home in Sitio Sulog, Barangay Halapitan, San Fernando, Bukidnon.

Police identified the fatality as Rutchel Amad, 32. Her husband, Jorniel Amad, 34, and their 12-year-old son sustained injuries during the attack.

According to Police Executive Master Sergeant Rael Ganadillo of the San Fernando Municipal Police Station, the suspect forcibly entered the Amad residence and immediately opened fire. Rutchel was hit in multiple parts of her body and died on the spot. Jorniel suffered a gunshot wound to his hand, while their son was injured in the nose and hand.

Investigators are looking into a personal grudge as a possible motive. Spent shells from a caliber .45 pistol, believed to be the weapon used, were recovered from the crime scene.

Emelda Quiño, a cousin of the victim, said Rutchel had minor disputes with neighbors but nothing that warranted such violence. She added that Rutchel left behind a 9-month-old baby.

The victim’s mother, Merry Laspoña, appealed to authorities to bring the suspect to justice.

Police in San Fernando continue to pursue the gunman as the investigation remains ongoing.
