Most NCR cities record “unhealthy” air quality following Navotas landfill fire

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) reported that only four cities in Metro Manila registered “good” or “fair” air quality levels following the fire at the Navotas Sanitary Landfill.

According to the DENR over the weekend, most areas in Metro Manila fell under “unhealthy” to “acutely unhealthy” categories after the incident.

Among those with “good” air quality were Makati with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 30, and Taguig with an AQI of 50.

Meanwhile, Muntinlupa and Mandaluyong recorded “fair” air quality levels with AQI readings of 66 and 68, respectively.

However, air quality in most parts of the region remained poor.

The worst air quality was recorded in Valenzuela City with an AQI of 215, classified as “acutely unhealthy.”

Several areas also fell under the “very unhealthy” category, including Quezon City, Marikina City, Malabon City, and Caloocan City.
