Mindanao faces downpours as heat index soars to 43°C in Pangasinan and Camarines Sur

The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is expected to bring cloudy skies, scattered rain, and thunderstorms across several areas in Mindanao on Tuesday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In its latest forecast, PAGASA reported that the Davao Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, SOCCSKSARGEN, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) will see moderate to heavy rainfall throughout the day. The weather bureau has warned of potential flash floods and landslides due to the intensity of these rains.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and other parts of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms caused by the easterlies. Residents in affected areas should remain vigilant as localized thunderstorms may trigger sudden downpours and flooding.

Heat Index Reaches Dangerous Levels in Pangasinan and Camarines Sur

While some parts of the country prepare for heavy rainfall, others will endure extreme heat. PAGASA’s heat index bulletin from March 24 indicated that two areas could experience dangerously high temperatures, reaching up to 43°C.

Dagupan City, Pangasinan is expected to record the highest heat index at 43°C, while CBSUA-Pili in Camarines Sur is forecasted to hit 42°C. The weather bureau has classified these areas under “extreme caution,” meaning prolonged exposure to heat could lead to heat cramps, heat exhaustion, or even heatstroke.

Other parts of the country will also experience intense heat, with temperatures ranging from 33°C to 41°C in several provinces. Areas with slightly lower temperatures, between 27°C and 32°C, are classified under the “caution” level.

PAGASA advises the public to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours, and take necessary precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses. Those in flood-prone areas of Mindanao are encouraged to stay updated on weather advisories and prepare for possible evacuations if needed.

With the combination of extreme heat and heavy rainfall affecting different parts of the country, residents are urged to remain alert and take appropriate safety measures.
