As Severe Tropical Storm “Nika” intensifies over the Philippine Sea, several regions in the Philippines, including Metro Manila and provinces across Luzon, have announced class suspensions for Monday, Nov. 11. Authorities have suspended classes across all levels in both public and private schools, prioritizing the safety of students and faculty amid expected heavy rainfall and strong winds.
Metro Manila Schools Take Precautionary Measures
In the National Capital Region, all classes have been canceled in cities such as Parañaque, Muntinlupa, Las Piñas, Caloocan, Marikina, Quezon City, Malabon, Mandaluyong, and Valenzuela. In Makati, classes are suspended for kindergarten through Grade 12, while Manila’s public schools are closed across all levels. Private tertiary institutions in Manila may shift to online classes at their discretion.
Widespread Suspensions Across Luzon Provinces
The Cordillera Administrative Region and several provinces in Central and Northern Luzon have also canceled classes. In Baguio City and Pangasinan province, as well as Aurora in Region III, all schools will remain closed. In Region IV-A (CALABARZON), Batangas province and various municipalities in Quezon have implemented class suspensions for kindergarten through high school students.
In addition, municipalities across Quezon, including Infanta, Lopez, Lucban, and Real, have announced closures for all students from preschool to Grade 12. Laguna province has joined the list, suspending classes at all levels.
Rizal province has announced specific suspensions in Jalajala (preschool to senior high school) and Morong (all levels). In Taytay, in-person classes are suspended.
Bicol Region Schools Close Amid Rising Storm Threat
Region V (Bicol Region) also faces widespread suspensions. Albay province has suspended face-to-face classes in multiple areas, including Bacacay, Guinobatan, Malilipot, Malinao, Oas, Rapu-Rapu, Sto. Domingo, and Tiwi. In Camarines Sur, all schools will remain closed.
As Typhoon Nika progresses, the public is advised to stay updated on weather advisories and school announcements. Local authorities emphasize caution and preparedness, urging residents in affected areas to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.
