Meghan Markle fires cryptic jab at royal ‘lies’ during podcast yet monarchy reportedly unmoved and considers her influence overblown

Meghan Markle appeared to make a veiled criticism of the royal family during a recent episode of the interview podcast “Aspire with Emma Grede.” Yet, one royal commentator says the palace likely paid it no mind, viewing her influence as negligible.

When asked if she would change the public’s perception of her, the Duchess of Sussex replied that she would ask people to tell the truth. She then recalled an unnamed “lie” from eight years ago, referencing events around her engagement to Prince Harry.

Although Markle didn’t specify which lie, her comment echoed past claims that the palace had “perpetuated falsehoods” about her in the press during her time as a working royal.

Royal expert dismisses Meghan’s barb

Royal commentator Jennie Bond told Woman’s Day Australia that Markle’s remarks probably went unnoticed by Buckingham Palace. Bond explained that Meghan did not build lasting bonds with family members, aside from her husband, and she believes the royals now consider the duchess irrelevant.

Bond stated she doubts any member of the royal family takes much notice of what Meghan says or posts. She added that in their view, she is now simply someone they briefly knew, not a figure of ongoing influence.

Meghan shaping her own brand path

Since stepping back from royal duties, Markle has launched her lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard, and embraced content-led marketing. Bond emphasized that as an influencer and entrepreneur, Meghan thrives on publicity. She noted that success in those fields depends on visibility.

Markle’s recent limited-edition product release, featuring her signature jam and floral sprinkles, highlights her pivot toward lifestyle entrepreneurship. Her public-facing strategy includes posting candid moments with Archie and Lilibet, reinforcing her personal brand.

Although Markle may be targeting narratives tied to her royal past, Bond doubted she has any path back to a working royal role. She said there is no chance of Meghan returning to official duties, nor of the family accepting her. Bond and others even find the notion of calling her “royal” laughable now.

Still, as Meghan continues to test the boundaries between public persona and royal history, observers wonder if her next move might finally force a palace response—or simply reinforce their indifference.
