Massive fire in Davao City leaves 150 homes destroyed

A massive fire broke out on the evening of October 2, 2025, at Barangay 21-C, Piapi Boulevard in Davao City, leaving hundreds of residents displaced.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the blaze was raised to a fourth alarm at 5:31 p.m. due to its size and the difficulty of containing it. Several firefighters experienced difficulties as they battled the flames in the congested area, officials confirmed.

Initial estimates from the BFP placed the number of destroyed homes at 150. This figure contradicted an earlier report from Barangay Captain Joenard Gabrillo, who had said around 400 households as assessments continue.

Barangay officials expressed gratitude for the quick response of authorities, who delivered food, clothing, and other immediate necessities to affected families. Relief efforts were quickly mobilized to address the urgent needs of displaced residents.

Acting Vice Mayor Rigo Duterte assured victims that the city government will provide financial assistance and daily food support until families can recover.

As of now, barangay and city responders are conducting further assessments to finalize the list of affected families and determine the full scope of needs. Authorities are continuing to coordinate efforts to ensure consistent aid distribution.

The cause of the fire has not yet been disclosed.
