A 20-year-old man was killed after being shot by riding-in-tandem suspects on Wednesday night in Sitio Lower Gun Club, Banawa, Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City.
The victim, identified only by the alias “Istong,” was a resident of Sitio San Roque in the same barangay.
According to PCPT Gabriel Pasilan Mota, officer-in-charge and station commander of the Guadalupe Police Station, the victim was able to mention the name of one of the alleged suspects before succumbing to his injuries.
The information prompted police to conduct a follow-up operation that resulted in the arrest of a 29-year-old suspect identified by the alias “Andrei” at about 3:30 a.m. on June 4.
Police investigation indicated that Andrei allegedly invited the victim to a meeting under the pretense of purchasing illegal drugs.
Investigators further learned that the meeting was allegedly arranged to bring the victim to a location where armed suspects were waiting. The other suspects were identified only through the aliases “Julius” and “Shan.”
Authorities said the two men were allegedly hired to carry out the shooting.
Crime scene investigators recovered eight spent shell casings and one bullet slug from a firearm that has yet to be identified.
Police also disclosed that the victim had previously been admitted to a juvenile rehabilitation and reformation facility in Cebu City when he was still a minor.
Authorities continue to conduct operations to locate and arrest the remaining suspects believed to have participated in the crime.
The investigation remains ongoing as police gather additional evidence and pursue leads related to the fatal shooting.
