Malacañang sees no cause for alarm regarding the health of former President Rodrigo Duterte, following concerns raised after reports of his significant weight loss while in The Hague.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro referred to a statement from Duterte’s former wife, Elizabeth Zimmerman, who noted the former leader had indeed lost weight but appeared to be in generally good condition.
Castro also emphasized that Duterte himself has said he is “okay” and is no longer taking maintenance medication.
Vice President Sara Duterte, his daughter, echoed the same sentiment, saying her father is in good health despite public speculation.
The Palace assured the public that Duterte is receiving adequate medical attention while in The Hague, where he is facing proceedings before the International Criminal Court. They stressed he is not being neglected and that his health is being monitored.
Castro added it’s possible the former President simply needs more physical activity to stay in shape.
Reports of Duterte’s appearance in The Hague have fueled speculation about his health, especially as he faces international legal scrutiny. However, the Palace maintains that there is no serious issue to be concerned about at this time.
