Lawmaker wants corrupt officials ‘shoot to death’ at Luneta Park

The proponent of the measure that imposes death by firing squad for corrupt government officials wants public execution to be done at Luneta Park in Manila.

Zamboanga City First District Representative Khymer Adan Olaso told Brigada News FM Manila that he wants the Filipino people to witness how corrupt officials are being punished.

Luneta Park now Rizal Park in Manila was the place where the Spanish colonizers executed Filipino martyr and national Hero Dr. Jose Rizal in 1896.”

Olaso defended his proposal to impose death penalty by firing squad against corrupt government officials as measures done in the past years have not been effective.

Olaso said.

Under House Bill 11211 or the Death Penalty for Corruption Act, a firing squad will be used against government officials who will be convicted by the Sandiganbayan.

“Panahon na para manukala tayo ng ganitong batas para sa mga taong umaabuso sa kaban ng bayan,”. Olaso added.

He reiterated the safeguards to ensure that the measure will not be abused when it becomes law.

While the move has yet to receive support from his colleagues, Olaso hopes the House gives priority to the measure.

If the bill does not make it in the 19th Congress, Olaso plans to file a similar bill in the next congress.
