Kapuso actor Ken Chan is at the center of a legal storm as authorities failed to serve an arrest warrant over an alleged P14-million investment fraud. The actor, who was not found at his Quezon City residence on Friday, reportedly faces serious charges from a complaint filed by a businessman who accused Chan of syndicate estafa concerning a failed restaurant venture.
The complainant, who has requested anonymity, alleges that Chan and seven others solicited funds for an investment that promised profit-sharing but failed to deliver on the terms, according to the complainant’s lawyer, Atty. Joseph Noel Estrada, Chan approached his client, allegedly misrepresenting his authorization to solicit public investments, and obtained P14 million in two separate payments.
Investment Deal Turns Sour with Fraud Allegations
Estrada shared that his client had primarily interacted with Chan and, after failing to see a return, filed the complaint in 2023. Syndicate estafa, a non-bailable offense in the Philippines, could lead to life imprisonment if Chan and his co-accused are convicted. Police records indicate that Friday’s attempt marked the second unsuccessful effort to serve the warrant.
The complainant’s lawyer underscored the seriousness of the allegations, stating, “Syndicated estafa, if proven, carries severe penalties, including reclusion perpetua.”
While Chan has not commented publicly on the case, his recent Instagram activity hints at his location in New York. He posted photos of the Statue of Liberty and captioned one with, “Mindset is everything.” This post has drawn public attention, with some speculating about its meaning amid the unfolding legal controversy.
Career on Hold as Legal Battle Unfolds
Dubbed the “Kapuso Ultimate Actor,” Chan rose to fame through his roles in popular television series like Destiny Roseand My Special Tatay. However, this legal situation now casts uncertainty on his career, with fans and the public awaiting his next move.
The actor’s management has yet to release an official statement regarding the warrant or his planned return to the Philippines.
