Nine-time PBA MVP June Mar Fajardo admitted that the remaining two games in the current FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers could be his last appearances for Gilas Pilipinas.
Fajardo said he now has to consider his age and physical condition, noting that he has been feeling the toll of playing at the highest level.
Gilas head coach Tim Cone revealed that Fajardo had told him after the team’s game against Australia that he was ready to retire from the national team.
However, Cone convinced the veteran big man to return for two crucial games in Window 4.
At 36, Fajardo said his body is already taking a beating and that he does not want to push himself beyond his limits.
After more than a decade with Gilas Pilipinas, Fajardo also said he wants to give younger players, such as Justin Arana, the opportunity to represent the country and experience playing for the national team.
