A 34-year-old man was killed while his wife and baby were injured after a brutal hacking incident allegedly driven by jealousy in Barangay Wangan, Calinan District, Davao City around 3 a.m. on July 20.
The fatality was identified as Jay Pandian. According to a report from Calinan Police Station, his older brother, June Anthony Pandian, 39, was arrested at the scene and is now facing charges of murder and frustrated murder.
Police said the suspect had been drinking with his wife and his younger brother prior to the attack. In the early morning, June reportedly confronted his wife and accused her of having an affair with Jay.
Fearing for her life, the wife fled with their children and hid in a nearby pineapple plantation. But June allegedly stormed into Jay’s house and attacked the family with a bladed weapon.
Jay died on the spot due to multiple hack wounds. His face was also reportedly smashed with a rock. His wife, Gerly Linde, sustained head and body injuries and remains confined at a hospital. Their 11-month-old child suffered injuries to the foot but is in stable condition.
Authorities confirmed the suspect is now detained and facing legal charges.
