A 44-year-old woman was killed by her husband inside a church in Barangay Poblacion, Liloan, Cebu, on the morning of October 24, 2025.
The victim, identified as Estela, was found bloodied and unconscious near the church entrance with injuries to the back of her head and neck. She was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Police identified the suspect as her 40-year-old husband, Ronie, both residents of Poro, Camotes, Cebu. Witnesses told Brigada News FM Cebu that they saw the suspect leaving the church shortly before the victim was discovered.
CCTV footage reportedly showed a man repeatedly striking the woman inside the church moments before she was found.
According to the victim’s sister, Ronie had recently been released from detention after serving time for violating the Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) Act.
Authorities have launched a manhunt for the suspect, who fled the scene after the assault.
The incident has shocked residents and churchgoers, who described the killing as “brutal and heartbreaking.” Investigators are now gathering more evidence and interviewing witnesses to track down the suspect and determine the motive behind the attack.
