House to seek remedies after SC voids VP Sara Duterte impeachment

The House of Representatives is studying possible legal remedies following the Supreme Court’s decision declaring the impeachment articles against Vice President Sara Duterte unconstitutional.

According to House Spokesperson Atty. Princess Abante, the chamber respects the ruling but will not let it hinder their performance of constitutional duties. She said the House intends to continue upholding Congress’ independence and its mandate under the Constitution.

Abante noted that any legal action the House may take is not meant to defy the high court, but rather to show commitment to constitutional principles. She added that public accountability should not depend on a government official’s rank.

The House has not yet received a copy of the full decision from the Supreme Court. The impeachment complaint against Duterte involved allegations concerning the use of confidential funds. With the proceedings now voided, the House is reviewing its options moving forward.
