House to follow Supreme Court order on VP Duterte’s impeachment

The House of Representatives confirmed it will comply with the Supreme Court’s order to comment on Vice President Sara Duterte’s petition challenging the validity and constitutionality of the impeachment proceedings against her.

Manila Representative Joel Chua said the House has received the court order but maintained that Duterte’s petition lacks merit.

Chua argued that the vice president’s petition is based on the one-year prohibition rule, but he insisted that the term “initiated” in the rules clearly refers to a complaint being filed and referred to the House Committee on Justice.

House Secretary-General Reginald Velasco also confirmed that the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) will serve as the House’s legal counsel in the case. As a result, the matter has been referred to the OSG for further action.
