HIV cases in the Philippines surge by 500%

The Department of Health (DOH) expressed serious concern over a sharp rise in HIV cases in the Philippines, reporting a 500% increase from January to March this year.

According to the DOH, this marks the highest recorded spike in the entire Western Pacific Region. An average of 57 new HIV cases are now being documented daily across the country.

Due to this alarming surge, the agency has proposed declaring a National Public Health Emergency in hopes of urgently addressing the situation.

In response to the data, the DOH is urging the public to take immediate action by undergoing free HIV testing and practicing safe sex. The agency emphasized the importance of using condoms, lubricants, and other protective measures to help reduce the risk of transmission.
