An unidentified gunman opened fire today on a vehicle traveling along Sinsuat Avenue, Rosary Heights 9, in Cotabato City, leaving one dead and several others injured.
The victim was identified as Akmad Kanapia Utto, a resident of Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao Del Sur. According to initial investigations, the assailant approached the passenger side of the vehicle and fired several shots, hitting Utto in the neck and body.
Authorities reported that Utto died from his injuries at the scene. Meanwhile, the other passengers, also injured in the attack, were transported to the Cotabato Regional and Medical Center for treatment. The gunman, who managed to flee the scene, remains unidentified as of now.
Local officials are investigating the motive behind the shooting, though no leads have been confirmed.
This attack has shocked the community, as Cotabato City has seen an uptick in violent incidents in recent months, raising concerns about public safety.
