A brazen robbery in Compostela, Davao de Oro, turned deadly Wednesday morning, leaving a 24-year-old security guard dead and over P3.7 million in cash stolen.
The incident unfolded at around 8:00 a.m. as BDO staff collected cash from Mabuhay Enterprise. According to Compostela Police Chief Lt. Col. Jesser Vagilidad, the armed suspects struck as the bank teller and security guard prepared to leave.
“The guard resisted and tried to secure his shotgun, but one of the suspects shot him in the chest,” Vagilidad said.
The guard, identified as James Pamasirsan Crucio, succumbed to his injuries on the spot. The suspects fled with the stolen cash on a motorcycle before reportedly transferring to an SUV headed toward Monkayo.
Authorities have launched a manhunt operation for the suspects. This marks Davao de Oro’s first major crime of the Christmas season, with police intensifying patrols to prevent further incidents.
Crucio’s death highlights the risks faced by front-line security personnel. “He tried to protect millions,” said Vagilidad, urging vigilance among businesses during the holidays.
