A Grade 10 student was injured after being stabbed by a younger schoolmate inside a campus in San Joaquin, Iloilo, on Wednesday, July 2.
The victim, a 15-year-old male identified as alias “Boy,” was rushed to the hospital following the incident. The suspect, a 13-year-old Grade 9 student known as alias “Jun,” is now in the custody of authorities.
Initial police investigation revealed that the stabbing followed a verbal altercation that started when the younger student allegedly teased the older one. The situation escalated quickly, leading to the stabbing.
The Department of Education (DepEd) in Iloilo confirmed that the Grade 9 student is now under the care of the San Joaquin Municipal Police Station and the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office.
DepEd Iloilo also stated that they will work closely with local police to implement stricter campus security protocols moving forward.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident, as concerns grow over student safety and school violence. No further information on the medical condition of the victim has been released at this time.
