‘Get a Job!’ pushes son to kill father, injure mother

A man killed his father and injured his mother in Barangay Inayangan, Calinan, Davao City, after reportedly being told to look for a job.

Police identified the suspect as Jickie Bato, 33, who was immediately arrested following the incident. The victims were his father, Ernesto Bato, 71, who died on the spot, and his mother, Elizabeth Bato, 58, who is now undergoing treatment at a hospital.

According to the initial police investigation, Ernesto was chopping wood when Jickie suddenly attacked him with a bolo. After killing his father, Jickie proceeded to strike his mother, inflicting serious injuries.

Authorities suspect that the attack was triggered by the parents’ earlier advice for Jickie to seek employment, which may have angered him and led to the violent act.

The police launched a hot pursuit operation and quickly apprehended the suspect. Jickie is now facing charges of parricide and frustrated murder.
