Former rebel’s tip leads to Army’s major arms cache recovery in Rizal

Soldiers from the 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division and the 7th Infantry (Kaugnay) Division recovered an arms cache of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Rodriguez, Rizal, on Sunday, November 2.

According to reports, the operation was carried out under the supervision of Joint Task Group 7-2 after a former NPA member voluntarily disclosed the location of the hidden weapons. Acting on the information, troops conducted a search in Barangay Puray, where they discovered several high-powered firearms.

Recovered from the site were two M16 rifles, two M653 rifles, and two caliber .45 pistols. Authorities believe the weapons were used by NPA remnants still operating in the area.

Military officials said the recovery marks another success in the government’s ongoing campaign to dismantle communist insurgent groups in Southern Tagalog.

The 2nd Infantry Division reaffirmed its commitment to peace and development programs, encouraging more former rebels to cooperate and support similar peace initiatives.
