A former barangay official was shot dead in broad daylight while driving his tricycle in Purok Poblacion 1, Tamontaka 4, Mother Kabuntalan, Maguindanao del Norte.
The victim, identified as Maula Isla Gadzali, a former kagawad of Barangay Payan, was with his wife when two unidentified assailants on a motorcycle approached them and opened fire. Gadzali was killed on the spot.
Authorities recovered at least eight spent shells from what is believed to be a .45 caliber pistol at the crime scene.
According to the victim’s wife, they had just left the hospital after visiting their daughter, who had recently given birth. While on their way home, the suspects closed in on them and carried out the attack.
Police are investigating the incident and have yet to determine the motive behind the killing. No suspects have been identified as of now.
Gadzali’s family has called on law enforcement to expedite the investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice.
