At least five people have been confirmed dead due to the effects of a shear line in the Mimaropa region, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported.
Of the fatalities, four were from Palawan. Three passengers drowned after their van was swept away by raging floodwaters in Barangay Inagawan, Puerto Princesa City. Another victim also drowned in Barangay Bancao-Bancao, in the same city.
The fifth fatality was reported in San Andres, Naujan, Oriental Mindoro, also due to drowning.
Meanwhile, Palawan remains the only province in the region with recorded evacuees, totaling 546 individuals, according to the NDRRMC. Overall, nearly 124,000 individuals across Mimaropa have been affected by the adverse weather conditions.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation as heavy rains and flooding persist in various areas. Emergency response teams have been deployed to assist affected residents, and relief operations are ongoing.
Residents in flood-prone areas are advised to remain vigilant and follow evacuation protocols to ensure their safety. The government urges the public to stay updated on weather advisories and cooperate with local authorities to minimize casualties and damage.
