A family dispute turned fatal after a father killed his son during a heated argument in Purok Tulip, Barangay Casili, Consolacion, Cebu late Wednesday evening.
Police identified the victim as Renato Castañares, 25, and the suspect as his father, Ramonito Bihag, 54. Both are residents of the area.
According to the police report, barangay tanods escorted Bihag to the local station after he voluntarily surrendered following the incident.
Responding officers found the victim lying lifeless with multiple hack wounds. Renato was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Investigations revealed that Bihag had just returned from his job as a motorcycle-for-hire driver. He found Renato berating his younger siblings and complaining about the chicken feet Bihag brought home for dinner, claiming he was tired of eating the dish.
The argument escalated when Renato reportedly kicked their door and grabbed a metal pipe. In retaliation, Bihag took a bolo and attacked his son, inflicting fatal injuries.
The father claimed in a radio interview that his son was under the influence of illegal drugs, which worsened his behavior.
