Fatal collision in Davao leaves one dead, another injured

A fatal collision early Thursday morning left one motorist dead and another hospitalized after their vehicles collided at a busy intersection along CP Garcia Highway, Davao City.

According to authorities, the crash occurred at approximately 5:58 a.m. near the intersection of Mamay Road and JP Laurel Avenue. The incident involved two motorcycles driven by Joniver Relampago, 38, of Digos City, and Edgar Cotelo, 64, of Cabantian, Davao City.

Initial investigations revealed that Relampago was heading toward Buhangin, while Cotelo was traveling to Cabantian. The vehicles collided at the intersection, with Relampago’s motorcycle striking the front-right side of Cotelo’s vehicle. The impact threw both riders onto the pavement, causing severe injuries.

Emergency responders from Central 911 treated both men on-site before transporting them to Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC). Despite medical efforts, Cotelo succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 7:00 a.m. by Dr. Tipalan. Relampago remains under medical care with unspecified injuries.

Police reports confirm that both motorcycles were significantly damaged. The vehicles are currently impounded for further investigation.
