Drunk cop allegedly shoots civilian dead in Cebu

A police officer is now behind bars after allegedly shooting a civilian to death in Tuburan, Cebu on Friday morning, June 13.

The victim was identified as Leo, while the suspect is a Police Staff Sergeant assigned to the CIDMU of the Cebu City Police Office.

Police received a call about the incident at around 6:15 a.m. from a concerned citizen. Responding officers found Leo lying in a pool of blood. He was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

Initial investigation by the Tuburan Municipal Police Station revealed that the officer, who was believed to be drunk at the time, confronted a group of men and got into an argument. The officer allegedly slapped one of the men, identified as Nel, and fired a warning shot, causing people to flee.

The officer then reportedly entered a house, saw Leo inside, and shot him in the head.

The suspect surrendered to the authorities, and a caliber .45 pistol was recovered.

Out of anger, Leo’s brother, Jerymy, threw a stone at the patrol car where the suspect was detained, causing damage. Jerymy was also arrested for malicious mischief.

The investigation is ongoing.
