The Department of Public Works and Highways is targeting 11,395 infrastructure projects in 2027 as part of reforms to prevent duplicate and overlapping projects.
DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon announced the target during a briefing of the House Committee on Appropriations. He said the lower number of projects is also intended to allow the agency to focus more on big-ticket or larger infrastructure projects.
Dizon said the DPWH typically handled about 20,000 projects in recent years, including from 2023 to 2025.
The number exceeded 25,000 projects in both 2024 and 2025, when the agency had a budget of nearly 1 trillion pesos. For 2026, the DPWH has 17,861 infrastructure projects.
Dizon also said the agency found that some district engineering offices had three or four times the ideal number of projects.
The 2027 target represents a reduction from the number of infrastructure projects recorded in previous years. According to Dizon, the change is part of the agency’s efforts to address duplicate and overlapping projects while giving greater attention to larger infrastructure projects.
