DOT Monitoring Impact of Earthquake on Tourism in Davao Oriental

The Department of Tourism (DOT) has activated its Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committee (DRRMCom) to monitor the situation following the magnitude 7.6 earthquake in Davao Oriental.

In an advisory, the agency said it is currently gathering reports from regional offices and coordinating with other government agencies to ensure timely assistance and accurate information.

The DOT also urged tourism stakeholders and all tourists to remain vigilant, follow local authorities’ directives, and avoid areas with potentially damaged or collapsing infrastructure.

Residents in coastal areas of Eastern Samar, Southern Leyte, Leyte, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Davao Oriental were also advised to stay alert for possible tsunami advisories triggered by the earthquake.

Lastly, the tourism department assured the public that it will prioritize the safety and welfare of travelers and tourism stakeholders.
