The Department of Energy (DOE) continues to urge the public to conserve electricity amid rising petroleum-related challenges linked to tensions in the Middle East.
As part of this effort, the agency is encouraging everyone to participate in the one-hour “Oras Natin sa Efficiency” (ONE) initiative, scheduled from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. tonight.
The activity is set to be observed every Saturday.
In an interview, DOE Energy Utilization Management Bureau Director Patrick Aquino said the initiative aims to reduce electricity consumption, building on the significant savings recorded during the annual Earth Hour.
Around 145 megawatts of power were reportedly saved during Earth Hour on March 28—enough to supply electricity to approximately one million households.
Aquino added that amid the current national emergency, the ONE initiative calls on Filipinos to be part of the solution.
He also expressed hope that more consumers will take part in the weekly activity.
