DFA welcomes US-Iran peace deal

The Philippines has welcomed the peace agreement reached between the United States and Iran following months of conflict in the Middle East.

In a statement, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) expressed appreciation for the efforts of Pakistan, Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and other partners in promoting dialogue and pursuing a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

The DFA noted that the Middle East crisis had severe consequences, including the loss of lives, damage to infrastructure, and significant economic challenges.

The department said it hopes the agreement will lead to a lasting cessation of hostilities and contribute to long-term peace and stability in the region.

Meanwhile, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. had earlier expressed hope that the ceasefire agreement between Iran and the United States would continue to hold and pave the way for sustained peace.
