The Davao City Council has called on newly appointed Ombudsman Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla to keep his office free from political influence and maintain fairness in performing his duties.
Councilor Bai Hundra Cassandra Dominique Advincula stressed that the Office of the Ombudsman must remain independent and committed to holding corrupt government officials accountable without fear, favor, or political pressure.
She emphasized that the Ombudsman’s responsibility is to protect the public’s interest and ensure justice within the government system. Advincula urged Remulla not to let past affiliations or political ties affect his decisions now that he heads the country’s top anti-corruption office.
Remulla previously served as Secretary of Justice, a position that has drawn public attention due to its close connection to the administration. The council expressed hope that his transition to the Ombudsman’s office would not compromise its independence.
Advincula added that the Ombudsman should serve as a voice of the people, not as a defender of powerful figures or a weapon against critics of the current administration, citing the ongoing political tension involving Vice President Sara Duterte.
The council said it expects Ombudsman Remulla to uphold the integrity of his office and to deliver justice “without fear or favor.”
