The Department of Agriculture (DA) will hold more than 100 contractors and suppliers accountable after delays in government projects intended to benefit farmers and fishermen last year.
These contractors and suppliers were hired by the DA’s regional offices to procure farm inputs and construct agricultural infrastructure but failed to fulfill their commitments.
The regional offices have submitted a detailed accounting report and liquidated damages related to violations of supply and infrastructure contracts.
As a result, the agency will impose fines amounting to ₱81 million.
In a statement, Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. said that every peso entrusted to the department should translate into real support for farmers and fishermen.
He added that the timely delivery of farm inputs and completion of projects would help the sector improve production, increase their income, and contribute to the country’s food security.
