The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will not adopt a four-day workweek due to its scheduled activities this year.
In a statement, Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia said the agency cannot implement the proposed work arrangement at this time.
He explained that voter registration is ongoing, along with preparations for the special elections in Antipolo City, the Bangsamoro parliamentary elections, and the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.
Despite not adopting the policy, the agency has started implementing several measures to save electricity.
These include turning off air-conditioning units one to two hours before the end of office hours and unplugging appliances that are not in use.
Employees are also being encouraged to carpool and to avoid traveling for meetings if these can be conducted online instead.
