COMELEC: No pending election offense case vs. Marcoleta

Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Chairman George Garcia clarified that the poll body has already completed its role in the case involving Senator Rodante Marcoleta over alleged undeclared campaign contributions during the 2025 elections.

In an ambush interview on Monday, Garcia said the COMELEC has jurisdiction over matters involving campaign donations, contributions, and Statements of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE).

However, he said there is no longer any pending criminal case or election offense against Marcoleta before the poll body.

Garcia made the statement following Marcoleta’s argument before the Sandiganbayan that the COMELEC, rather than the anti-graft court, should have jurisdiction over the case because it is election-related.

Garcia stressed, however, that other branches or government agencies may still pursue separate cases if violations of the law are established.
