Cendaña denounces contempt case, labels it Duterte ‘modus’

Akbayan Partylist Rep. Perci Cendaña called the indirect contempt case filed against him a “modus” used by the Dutertes to silence critics.

The case stems from his comments on the Supreme Court’s ruling related to the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte. Cendaña claimed the move mirrors previous actions by Duterte supporters, which he described as legal harassment targeting dissenters.

He added that it was ironic for Duterte and Pastor Apollo Quiboloy’s supporters to accuse others of disrespecting the law when, according to him, they themselves have disregarded legal norms.

Despite the charges, Cendaña said he remains at peace and stands by his decision to speak out against what he alleged was the misuse of confidential funds by VP Sara Duterte. He said holding public officials accountable is worth the risk.

The lawmaker also said he considers it an honor to be grouped with opposition figures like Sen. Risa Hontiveros and former lawmaker Leila de Lima, whom he claims were also subjected to harassment by Duterte and Quiboloy supporters.

To underscore his point, Cendaña quoted Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, describing the contempt filing as both “an honor and a responsibility.”
