A suspect in the alleged rape of an 11-year-old girl was declared dead on arrival at a hospital after being found struggling to breathe inside his jail cell at the Cebu City Jail Male Dormitory.
The suspect, identified only by the alias “Andot,” was reportedly discovered experiencing severe difficulty breathing inside his cell. He was rushed to a hospital on Sunday, April 26, but was declared dead on arrival.
In an interview with Brigada News FM Cebu, the suspect’s brother, identified as “Alyas Boy,” said the family noticed large bruises on the suspect’s back and legs.
Authorities are considering several angles, including the possibility that the suspect may have been physically harmed while inside detention.
The family is currently awaiting the results of the autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. They also plan to bring the incident before the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) for further investigation.
As of this time, the cause of the suspect’s sudden death has not yet been determined, and authorities said an investigation remains ongoing.
The suspect had earlier been accused of raping his 11-year-old neighbor in Barangay Kalunasan, Cebu City, on March 7.
Authorities arrested him on March 10 after he allegedly attempted to flee following the incident.
Officials have not released further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s death, pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
