A massive fire gutted a residential area in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City on Sunday morning, leaving more than 80 families homeless, local authorities reported.
The blaze broke out at Sitio Camagong around 10 a.m. on September 21, sending thick smoke and flames across the neighborhood. Firefighters raised the alarm to the fourth level as crews rushed to contain the rapidly spreading fire.
By the time it was declared under control at noon, the fire had destroyed about 52 houses, displacing 83 families or 279 residents, officials said. Emergency teams worked to ensure evacuees were safe while nearby residents watched as flames consumed wooden structures.
No injuries or fatalities were reported in the incident. Damage to property, however, was estimated at ₱1.5 million, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire. Initial reports did not indicate whether faulty wiring, open flames, or other hazards triggered the blaze. Residents affected by the incident were advised to remain in temporary shelters while awaiting assistance.
