Cebu cop arrested after pulling gun inside cockpit arena

A 46-year-old police officer was arrested after pulling a gun during a heated argument with a civilian inside a cockpit arena in Barangay South Poblacion, City of Naga, Cebu. The incident happened around 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 30.

Authorities identified the suspect as a patrolman assigned as a mobile patrol driver at the Talisay City Police Station.

Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showed the officer drawing his firearm while in the middle of a tense exchange with a man. As the confrontation escalated, the civilian managed to wrestle the weapon away from the officer. The sudden turn caused panic among those inside the cockpit, with people seen rushing to safety.

In an interview with Brigada News FM Cebu, the cockpit arena’s manager said the police officer had entered the establishment carrying a fighting cock. Before the altercation, he reportedly went straight to a store inside the venue where he consumed alcohol.

The situation escalated quickly, leading to the gun incident that disrupted the area and alarmed bystanders. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The officer is now in police custody as authorities conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. Officials have yet to release details on possible charges or administrative actions that may be filed against him.
