CCTV records alleged abduction in Cebu City

CCTV footage captured an alleged abduction incident near a subdivision in Banilad, Cebu City, shortly after 2 a.m. on May 11, 2026, prompting an ongoing police investigation.

The footage showed Glen leaning against a vehicle while talking to another man when two vehicles arrived at the scene. Several individuals then stepped out and allegedly forced both men into a van.

Video footage also showed Glen resisting as he was being pushed into the vehicle. The van quickly left the area while one of the suspects drove away in the vehicle that Glen had been leaning on moments earlier.

During a press conference, Police Major Eric Gingoyon, chief of the Mabolo Police Station, said investigators are looking into the possibility that the incident was connected to transactions involving mortgaged or financed vehicles. Authorities are also considering a possible “rentangay” scheme.

Police have identified the man who was speaking with Glen before the incident as a person of interest.

Investigators learned that the person of interest allegedly mortgaged two vehicles to Glen for P900,000 each, but the transactions reportedly lacked supporting documents.

According to police, the two men met on May 10 to facilitate the return of the vehicles while the person of interest searched for another financer who could repay Glen along with interest.

Authorities said the alleged abduction occurred while they were waiting for funds that were supposedly being sent by the spouse of the person of interest.

Glen told investigators that he was blindfolded and beaten inside the van before being dropped off in Naga City. He also claimed that several personal belongings, including his cellphone, were taken.

Gingoyon clarified that authorities consider the incident an isolated case and that Cebu City remains generally safe. He added that investigators do not believe it was a kidnap-for-ransom case and are looking into intimidation as a possible motive.

The investigation remains ongoing, while the victim is determined to file charges against those involved.
