Caretaker dies after being kicked downstairs by drunk customer in Cebu

A 55-year-old restobar caretaker died after he was kicked by a customer during a heated altercation Saturday night, July 19, in Barangay Daanlungsod, Alcoy, Cebu.

The victim, identified only as “Ed,” a native of Bacolod City and a resident of the area, was pronounced dead-on-arrival at the hospital due to severe head injuries after falling down the stairs.

Initial police investigation revealed that a couple—Philip, 39, and Johanna, 40—were arguing inside the restobar past 10 p.m. when the incident occurred. Ed reportedly tried to intervene to de-escalate the situation but was kicked by Philip, causing him to lose balance and fall.

Police launched a hot-pursuit operation and arrested the suspect around 1:30 a.m. the following day, Sunday, July 20.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident while preparing charges against the suspect.
