Two brothers were killed in a workplace accident in Banga, Aklan, after being struck by a backhoe bucket on Thursday afternoon.
The incident happened in Barangay Pagsanghan around 5 p.m. on September 4. Police identified the victims as Jonel and Jomer Tamayo, both residents of Balete, Aklan.
Based on the initial investigation, the brothers were helping repair a truck transmission while a backhoe was being used as a lifting tool. The 44-year-old operator said he was maneuvering the equipment when its hydraulic hose suddenly burst, causing the bucket to fall on the victims.
Jonel and Jomer sustained fatal injuries and died instantly at the site. Responding officers from the Banga Municipal Police Station confirmed the brothers were already lifeless when they arrived.
At the police station, the backhoe operator broke down in tears as he apologized to the victims’ family. He described the incident as an accident that he deeply regretted.
The Tamayo family, though grieving, declined to file charges. They accepted the incident as an accident beyond anyone’s control, police said.
